Bmw X5 Back Door Wont Open

broken image

The problem is the door latch mechanism is bad and needs replacement. The method I use to get the door panel off is to get the screws loose, one is behind the plastic plug that has 'SRS' on it, one is behind the wood trim. The panel is held on with plastic clips that have to be forced off. The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. The contact stated that the rear passenger side door failed to latch. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear driver side door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. You should be able to use the key on the driver's door to gain access to the interior of the vehicle. Then follow the attached graphic to manually release the liftgate (upper portion of the hatch) and tailgate (lower portion of the hatch), in that order. But if the battery isn't too far gone, I would try to jump-start the car instead and just use the central locking system. You don't need access to the rear-mounted battery for this; BMW provides a post under under the hood for the positive terminal, which can be accessed by opening a small tabbed box toward the windshield that's marked with a '+' sign. And of course you can just connect the negative side of the jumper cable to any chassis point of the car.
